If you
are reading this information about late abortion for fetal anomaly, you
more than likely have received devastating news regarding your pregnancy.
You may have been given information that your fetus has a severe fetal or
congenital abnormality, or a lethal health problem.
This may be the most
difficult dilemma that you and your family have ever encountered. At the
Comprehensive Women's Health Center, we see many women and couples who
must face this painful and personal choice. They wanted to have a baby,
made plans for it, and were thrilled at the prospect of this addition to
their family, only to find out that they face tragedy instead of happiness.
For the women and families who come to us with these
problems, we want to help them through this crisis as safely, and with
as much support, as possible. Upon request, we will make
arrangements to help you through the grieving process: having a footprint, having a
private cremation or burial, having private religious services, or any
other special requests that are possible. We also can arrange for
specialized medical examination and genetic testing under most
circumstances.
Making an Appointment
When you call our appointment center, we'll ask you the
name of your referring physician or counselor as well as the name of the
diagnosed abnormality. We'll also ask if you and your physician want to
have additional genetic testing of the fetal tissue following the
termination. We must be notified of these arrangements prior to your
appointment. We'll explain our services and fees and check with your
insurance company regarding medical coverage.
Afterwards
Our physician will send the referring physician a
medical report for your file. We'll give you information about local
support groups for couples experiencing a loss
resulting from a fetal problem. If you want, our perinatal loss nurse specialist
will contact you. A nurse is available around the clock if
you have any medical concerns.
