Before Your Appointment: First Trimester Surgical Abortion
What to Bring:
 | Driver's License or other photo identification |
 | Insurance Card (if needed) |
 | Payment (cash, certified check, or credit card only--no
personal checks) |
 | Student Identification, if needed |
 | Blood Type documentation (lab results, blood donor card,
etc.) |
 | Medical Records, if applicable (lab tests, ultrasound
results, etc.) |
 | If you are under 18 years old, you will need to notify
you parents of your intention to have an abortion. |
 | Music (we have tape/CD players in the exam rooms) |
What to Do:
 | One person may support (friend, partner, spouse, relative)
you
during the patient education, procedure, and recovery. |
 | Do not eat or drink anything for 2 hours before your
appointment. Do not have a heavy meal. |
 | You will be given medications, including antibiotics.
Please tell the doctor if you have any allergies. |
 | Wear comfortable clothing. You may want to bring or wear
socks to keep your feet warm. We will be giving you a maxi-pad after your
procedure; we suggest that you do not wear thong underwear. |
What to Have at Home:
 | After the procedure, you may have some cramping. You may
take ibuprofen or Tylenol for the cramping. |
 | Spotting/bleeding is common for up to a month after your
procedure. We will provide you with one maxi pad; you should buy pads or
liners to use at home. |
