Before Your Appointment: Medical Abortion

What to Bring:

bulletDriver's License or other photo identification
bulletInsurance Card (if needed)
bulletPayment (cash, certified check, or credit card only--no personal checks)
bulletStudent Identification, if needed
bulletBlood Type documentation (lab results, blood donor card, etc.)
bulletMedical Records, if applicable (lab tests, ultrasound results, etc.)
bulletIf you are under 18 years old, you will need to notify you parents of your intention to have an abortion.

 

What to Do:

bulletYou may have one person accompany you during the patient education and exam.
bulletYou will be given medications, including antibiotics. Please tell the doctor if you have any allergies.
bulletYour initial appointment will last approximately 1 hour.
bulletYour follow-up (second) appointment will last approximately 15 minutes.

 

What to Have at Home:

bulletAfter the procedure, you may have some cramping. You may take ibuprofen or Tylenol for the cramping.  We will also provide you with pain medication.
bulletSpotting/bleeding is common for up to a month after your procedure. We will provide you with one maxi pad; you should buy pads or liners to use at home.
